White cedar

Description

A lumber trade term referring to any of several large, softwood trees native to North America. White cedar wood is used for exterior siding, shingles, piers and interior trim.

- Pacific northwest: Chamaecyparis lawsoniana (Orford cedar Port Orford cedar), Librocedurs decurrens (cedar incense cedar)

- Eastern U.S.: Chamaecyparis thyoides and Chamaecyparis sphaeroidea (cypress American cypress)

- Northeastern North America: Thuja occidentalis (arborvitae American arborvitae)
