Description
The tannin-rich pods from the Caesalpinia cacolacoa tree native to the Mexico. The 3-inch long pods contain a high percentage of water-soluble, tannin pyrogallol tannin. Cascalote is the standard tanning material of Mexico. It produces a light colored leather that is plump and soft. When fermented, cascalote develops a deep red color that is used to dye for leather. It is similar to divi-divi, algarobilla, and tara.
