Description

The dark blue crystalline colorant in indigo. Indigotin is formed when indican, the colorless extract from the indigo plant, is dried in air. The indican is oxidized to form the deep blue indigotin.

Other Properties

Insoluble in water, ethanol, ether and dilute acids. Dissolves in nonpolar solvent with a red color and polar solvents with a blue color.
