Description

Originally coined in 1940, elastomer refers to a synthetic polymer with elastic properties similar to natural natural rubber. According to ASTM, an elastomer can recover its original size after repeated extensions to more than twice its initial length. Examples of elastomers are polybutadiene, rubber styrene-butadiene rubber, polychloroprene (neoprene), rubber nitrile rubber, rubber butyl rubber, polysulfide rubber (Thiokol), polyisoprene, propylene terpolymer ethylene propylene terpolymer (EDPM), resin silicone rubber, and fiber polyurethane rubber.
