Description
A red solid colorant produced from madder extract that has been precipitated and oxidized. The process for making garacine was perfected in 1839 by Lagier and Thomas. Garancine had about 4 to 5 times the dyeing power of madder, but the final product was not as lightfast or wash resistant.
