Description

A water-soluble blue aniline dye. Nicholson blue is the sodium salt of triphenylrosaniline-monosulfonic acid. Discovered in 1862 by Nicholson, it readily forms a permanent blue color on silk and wool. Nicholson blue was sometimes mixed with barwood to form an inexpensive imitation of indigo.
