Description
A class of organic compounds that contain phosphorus Organophosphates are esters of phosphinic acid. They are used as plasticizers, flame retardants and insecticides. The term 'organophosphate' is commonly used to refer to the insecticide materials. As insecticides, organophosphate compounds act as cholinesterase inhibitors. Examples are diazinon, dichlorvos, malathion, and chlorpyrifos. All organophosphates should be handled with care as they tend to have toxic effects on the nervous system.
