Description
A modified oil that forms a water emulsion. Sulfonated oil is formed when and oil is chemically treated with sulfuric acid. This adds water soluble sulfonic end groups to the fatty acid molecules. Sulfonated oils are used to introduce fatliquor hides thereby adding softness, flexibility, and water repellency. They are also used in the manufacture of paper and fabrics as dye mordants and as finishing oils.
