Description
A term used to describe changeable luster. A cat's eye gemstone has an opalescent light reflection that appears to move across the convex polished surface of the stone as it is rotated. Other stones that can exhibit chatoyancy include garnet, star sapphire, and chrysoberyl. Some silks and shell marbles are also chatoyant.
