Spirit of wine varnish

Description
A protective finish composed of a [fullrecord.asp?name=natural resin natural resin] dissolved in [fullrecord.asp?name=alcohol alcohol]. Spirit of wine varnish was used in the 18th century as a fast drying finish. Recipes often used a mixture of resins such as [fullrecord.asp?name=sandarac sandarac], [fullrecord.asp?name=spermaceti spermaceti], [fullrecord.asp?name=elemi elemi], and [fullrecord.asp?name=mastic resin mastic].
