Lead sugar

Description

Common name for acetate lead acetate used prior to the 1800s when chemical compound names were standardized (Schur 1985). It was also called sugar of lead. Lead sugar was sometimes used to manufacture black colors for japanning.

Hazards and Safety

Combustible. Toxic by inhalation or ingestion. Skin contact may cause irritation or ulcers. Carcinogen, teratogen, suspected mutagen.
