Description
A pigments green pigment prepared as a mixture of blue and yellow. Vergaut is most often described as a mixture of indigo and orpiment that was used as an alternative to verdigris by medieval painters. Alternate combinations found in some texts include: orpiment with blue, natural ultramarine blue (Cennino); orpiment with organic blue-most likely woad (Brown 2003, about use in Lindisfarne Gospels)), indigo with orpiment or ocher yellow ocher (Merrifield 1849)
