Iron dichromate

Description
A reddish-brown crystalline material occasionally used as a transparent pigment in oil and watercolor paints. Iron dichromate is prepared by heating hydroxide ferric hydroxide in acid chromic acid or by mixing chromate potassium chromate with sulfate iron sulfate.

Hazards and Safety
Human carcinogen. Skin contact may cause allergies. Acute ingestion may cause fatal chromium poisoning. Chronic inhalation may cause lung cancer and respiratory irritation.
