Bundesdenkmalamt Osterreich

Bundesdenkmalamt Osterreich (BDA) is a national membership organization that promotes the preservation and care of cultural resources in Austria. Founded in 1938 by the Austrian Federal Office for the Care of Monuments, the BDA originally had a small section for conservation (painting, sculpture of wood and stone, excavations). In 1955, the workshop moved into a building in the Vienna Arsenal with a special area allotted for different restoration work-shops, didactic collections sections and services for documentation. A scientific laboratory was added in 1975. Since 1980, the series RESTAURATORENBLTTER is published together with the Austrian section of the International Institute for Conservation (IIC).
