Uemera's notes | The fabric was firstly dyed with turmeric, and then top-dyed with safflower. The color called "Hi (緋)" during the Edo period (the 16 -19th century AD) was achieved in this method, however the Hi in the 7 -8th century AD was dyed with madder. |
