Description
A photographic or digital image analysis method which captures the absorption/emission characteristics of reflected infrared radiation. Infrared reflectography uses a specially designed heat-sensitive film or optical monitor for image capturing. When an object or painting is illuminated with infrared radiation, it will penetrate and interact with the surface and underlying layers. Since the absorption of infrared wavelengths varies for different pigments, the resultant image can help distinguish the pigments that have been used in the painting or underdrawing.
