Migration
Revision as of 06:09, 24 July 2013 by (username removed)
Description
The movement of molecules of ions within the structure of a material. Migration may occur when two materials are in intimate contact, such as an adhesive on the broken edge of a ceramic piece. Migration occurs if one or more of the components from the adhesive seep or wick into the clay. In any material, regions of high concentration will try to form an equilibrium with regions of low concentration. Diffusion and capillary action can aid the process.
