Yellow varnish

Description
A solution of dammar resin dissolved in linseed oil. Yellow varnish was used in the 1940's to prepare an emulsion paint medium introduced by Jacques Maroger. Pigments were dispersed in yellow varnish, then the mixed with an aqueous gum arabic solution to form a paste. This formulation for Maroger medium was used only for a short period prior to being replaced by a medium using megilp.
