Uemura's notes Mordanting with ash water would not fix the color compound(s) well to fiber. The resultant color would be yellow brown like Shiba-zome, using iron mordant bath and ash water bath. This plant is not a type of mulberry tree. The Bencao Gangmu, a Chinese medical book (accessible through: http://www.i-apple.jp/honzo/) from the late 16th century AD says:
