Cyclone precipitator

Description

A dust collecting device. A cyclone precipitator consists of a cylindrical chamber placed over a cone shaped funnel. Air is rapidly drawn through the cylinder forming a vortex. Centrifugal force pulls the heavier particles to the outer walls while the clean air escapes down a central tube. Cyclone precipitators are used in industry and to reduce smoke stack emissions. They are not considered effective enough for dust removal in museum use (Kuhn 1986).
