Dissociation constant

Description

A measure of the dissociation of positive and negative ions in an electrolyte solution. Most simple salts, such as sodium chloride, have a high dissociation constant when dissolved in water. The dissociation constant for an acid or base indicates the ionization strength of the compound and can be related to its pH.
