Description
The temperature at which a solid, thermoplastic material experiences plastic flow. The ASTM softening point test is done by raising the temperature of the specimen at a constant rate of 50 deg C per hour while the flat end of a needle is being pressed into the specimen with a load of 1000 grams. The softening point occurs when the needle can penetrate the material 1 millimeter.
