Balfour granite

Description

A brand name for a dense, medium-grain Granite quarried near Balfour in Henderson County, North Carolina. Primarily quarried from about 1890-1920, Balfour granite comes in a uniform pink color and a cream color with a pinkish tinge. Both color of granites, Balfour pink, and Balfour cream, polish to a high gloss and have been used for buildings and monuments. The durable, high quartz content granite was also used as durax blocks, paving stones, and grist mill stones.
