Colonization

Description

Colonization of the stone by plants and micro-organisms such as bacteria, cyanobacteria, algae, fungi and lichen (symbioses of the latter three). Biological colonization also includes influences by other organisms such as animals nesting on and in stone. Direct growth on and in stone or stone cavities; also indirect influences by nearby trees and other organisms.
