Description

A clear liquid composed of an organic salt of silicic acid. Silicon esters hydrolyze to form a colorless, transparent film of silica. Silicon esters have been tried as binders to form a solid glass-like paint film. They have also been used for consolidation and weatherproofing stone, mortars and cements. Examples are Ethyl silicate, Methyl silicate, amyl silicate, tetraethyl silicate.
