Description

Long bast fibers obtained from the stalks of the bromeliad, Bromelia sagenaria, native to the Amazon region of Brazil. The fibers are long, flexible, water-resistant and resistant to insect attack. The white or purple fibers are used for ropes, hammocks and coarse weave fabrics.
