Diethylene glycol
Description
A colorless, thick, hygroscopic liquid that is used as a finishing agent for fabrics (wool, cotton, fiber rayon, and silk), tobacco, leather, sponges, paper products, and cork. As a finishing agent, diethylene glycol prevents materials from drying out and becoming stiff or hard. Diethylene glycol is used as a lubricant, plasticizer, surfactant, and solvent in many types of polymers, adhesives, varnishes, paints, inks, and dyes.
