Description

Isoprene, or 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene, is a common volatile organic compound with the formula CH 2 =C(CH 3 )−CH=CH 2 . In its pure form it is a colorless volatile liquid. Isoprene is an unsaturated hydrocarbon. It is produced by many plants and animals (including humans) and its polymers are the main component of natural rubber. Isoprene is produced and emitted by many species of trees, such as oaks, poplars, and eucalyptus.
