Description

A class of compounds that are widely used as plasticizers. In general, phthalate ester have good stability and are nontoxic. As with any plasticizer, they may migrate out of their parent medium. Examples of phthalate esters are Dioctyl phthalate, Dibutyl phthalate, Diallyl phthalate, and Dicyclohexyl phthalate.

Phthalates are on the ILFI Red list of building materials.

Risks

  • Slight toxicity for ingestion and inhalation
  • Heated vapors may cause eye and nose irritation.
