Description

An Oolitic limestone with a gray or buff color and an even texture. Rockwood limestone is quarried near Sheffield, in Colbert County, Alabama. It has been used for the construction of many buildings in the South. Rockwood limestone is also sold commercially under the name of Darlington limestone. Rockwood limestone was used for the interior gallery walls of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
