Description
Soft deliquescent crystals that are water-soluble. In a closed environment, a saturated aqueous solution of magnesium chloride will form an equilibrium at a relative humidity level of about 34% (20C). Magnesium chloride salt is also used for fireproofing wood, treating Cotton and Wool, as well as for the manufacture of Parchment paper.
Synonyms and Related Terms
magnesium chloride hexahydrate; Magnogene
Risks
- Toxic by ingestion.
- Skin or eye contact may cause irritation.
- ThermoFisher: SDS
Physical and Chemical Properties
- Soluble in water and ethanol.
- Evolves substantial heat when dissolved in water.
