Description
A chemical and thermal resistant glass made by melting Alumina with Boric oxide. Alumina glass may also contain small amounts of Lime or Silica. The first major use for the high strength, high-temperature glass was as vapor discharge lamps in 1961 by General Electric. Because alumina glass is optically transparent it is used in specialized areas as thin film, coatings and fibers. IT is in the class considered as called transparent ceramics, that is used in lasers, armor windows, night vision devices and nose cones of heat-seeking missiles.
