Uemera's notes If the amount of ash water would be less during the dyeing process, the resultant color would be more red. This color should be what was called "Aka murasaki (赤紫)" in the Nihon-shoki (日本書紀), 720 AD ; "Ebizome (葡萄)" in the Ebukuryo (衣服令), the 8th century AD; and "Murasaki-sou (紫艸)" in the Hitachi fudoki (常陸風土記), 721 AD.
