Glue tempera painting
MFA# 54.1432

Description

A water thinned protein-based paint that dries to a water resistant film. Glue temperas use Casein or Gelatin often as an emulsion mixed with Oil. These paints dry to a semi-matt appearance by the evaporation of water. Glycerin or other humectants were often added to reduce cracking. Formalin was sometimes added to produce a hard insoluble film.
