Description

An archaic and misleading name for a liquid petroleum distillate fraction. Benzine, not to be confused with Benzene, is generally considered to be the petroleum distillate fraction collected from 90-150C. However, the name benzine and petroleum benzine has also been used for lighter distillate fractions. Because of the confusion of the name 'benzine' with the more toxic aromatic solvent 'benzene', an alternate name of Ligroin is recommended by ASTM for this hydrocarbon fraction.
