Description

An unstandardized name that has been used generically for blue copper compounds as well as specifically for many of the following compounds:

  • Azurite: ground mineral of naturally occurring basic copper carbonate
  • Blue verditer: and old name for synthetic azurite; which was also called Blue bice
  • Blue vitriol: and old name for hydrated copper sulfate
  • Bremen blue: synthetic mixture of copper hydroxide and blue basic copper carbonate
  • Copper nitrate: made synthetically by treating coper metal or oxide with nitric acid
  • Copper Silicate: A name sometimes used for Egyptian blue (calcium copper silicate)
  • Copper sulfate: found as mineral (Chalcanthite) or made synthetically
