Missouri Red granite

Description

A deep red, medium- to coarse-grain granite first quarried in 1869 near Graniteville, Missouri. Missouri red granite was used for monuments, paving stone, columns, and buildings. It can still be seen in the paving stones of the St. Louis levee and in the front porch columns on the Governer's mansion in Jefferson City. Elephant Rocks State Park has massive outcroppings of the granite boulders
