National Science Foundation

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent agency of the U.S. Government, that was established in 1950 by an act of Congress. The mission of NSF is to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; and to secure the national defense. NSF implements this mission through numerous programs, some of which include fellowships, grants, and contracts to strengthen scientific and engineering research potential, and education programs at all levels, and appraise the impact of research upon industrial development and the general welfare.
