Description
A general term used for a soft, non abrasive material used to create space, protect, and/or separate an object from another surface such as a mount or storage container. They can also be used as lightweight spacers to fill or produce different shapes.
Padding materials include:
- Foams: Provide impact absorption and pressure distribution; open-cell foams allow airflow, while closed-cell foams are waterproof and shock resistant
- Fabrics: Provide separation between two surfaces with minimal bulk as well as change appearance
- Tubing: An easily applied shock-absorbing, form-fitting sleeve that is durable and stays in place
- Batting: Can smooth edges, and add dimension while minimizing friction; some can stretch to be form-fitting
