Pearl ash

Description

A crude form of Potassium carbonate. Pearl ash is purified from wood ash by leaching a wood ash solution with water then drying the extract to obtain the potassium carbonate crystals. Pearl ash was used as a mordant and as a wash for leather bindings prior to marbling.
