Description

Bright red crystalline powder. Phenolsulfonphthalein, or phenol red, is used as an acid base indicator. It is prepared as a 0.02-0.05% solution in ethanol. In solutions with a pH below pH 6.8, phenolsulfonphthalein is yellow and solutions above pH 8.4 are red.

Physical and Chemical Properties

Soluble in alkali hydroxides and carbonates. Slightly soluble in water, ethanol, acetone. Insoluble in chloroform, ether.
