Description
A radioactive, rare-earth element with an atomic number of 61. Prior to 1948, this element was called illinium. Promethium is a silvery-white metal that is recovered from spent uranium fission products. It is used in luminescent paint, x-ray sources and nuclear auxiliary power generators.
