Smithsonian's Museum Conservation Institute

The Smithsonian's Museum Conservation Institute (formerly Smithsonian Center for Materials Research and Education - SCMRE) was established in 1963 to provide analysis and conservation support to the Smithsonian Museums. The Institute is focused on providing in-depth research and education in conservation, preservation, technical study, and analysis of museum collections. Located near Washington DC, the Institute is composed of over 30 staff members working in well-equipped conservation and scientific research labs. They regularly sponsor training programs, produce educational materials, and publish research papers advancing the field of conservation.
