Description

[Fraunhofer Institut fur Silicatforschung, Germany] An inorganic sol-gel material. Silicon zirconium alkoxide, SZA, was developed as a Consolidant for loose paint layers on stained glass windows. The mixture of silicon and zirconium alkoxide combine through a sequence of hydrolysis and condensation reactions to form a cross linked Si-O-Zr network. The reaction is initiated by the addition of water. When added to glass or ceramics, SZA forms an irreversible bond.
