Description
A disease found on cereal grains that is cause by fungi. Smut occurs on corn (maize), grasses, onion, and sorghum. It appears as localized fuzzy, soot-like areas called sori on seeds, leaves, stems, flower parts, and bulbs. The sori release a black powder of spores that is readily dispersed in the air.
